The Coronation of Joe Biden: 46th President of America

Hello everyone,

The swearing-in ceremony of the American president took place on 20^th January 2020. Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (Joe Biden) became the 46^th President of the US. Kamala Harris became the 49^th Vice President of the US. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the American Parliament House, Capitol Hill where a riot had happened a few days before.

Donald Trump did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of a new president and vice-president. It has happened after 152 years where the predecessor president was not present at the swearing-in ceremony of his successor president. Before 152 years, Andrew Johnson (17^th US President) was not present at the swearing-in ceremony of his successor. Before this John Adams (2^nd US President) and John Quincy Adams (6^th US President) skipped the inauguration or swearing-in ceremony of their successor. But, the previous Vice-President of the US Mike Pence attended the swearing-in.

Do you know that the inauguration or swearing-in ceremony only happens on the 20^th of January only!!!

The original date of inauguration or Oath of Office date was 4^th March after elections. The four months period was given to officials to calculate the votes and for the preparation of the results of the election. However, the advancement in technology shortened the time period of four months to two months.

In the 20^th Amendment, January 20 was declared as the day of inauguration and start of terms for both President and Vice-President of the US. The 20^th Amendment was applied from 1933 and the first President who took Oath of Office on the new date was Franklin Roosevelt (32^nd US President). He took Oath of Office on 20 January 1937, for his second term as the US President.

Exceptions:

Also, there are some exceptions like if there is a Sunday on January 20 then the swearing-in ceremony held in private and Oath of Office taken on January 21. This happened in 2013 during Barack Obama’s swearing-in for the second term.

In case of emergency, if the then-president dies or resigns then the inauguration might happen on unusual dates. When Richard Nixon (37^th US President) announced his resignation, Gerald Ford (the then Vice-President) sworn in immediately on 9 August 1974, and became the 38^th US President.

After the assassination of John F. Kennedy (35^th US President), Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the 36^th US President on 22^nd November 1963. After the death of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in the Oath of Office on April 12, 1945.

The coronation of Joe Biden:

Joe Biden is the eldest president of the US until now. Biden became the 46^th US President at the age of 78. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office to Biden as the current President of the United States. The event took place at Capitol Hill and only 1000 people were present due to the CoVID scenario. However, Washington was deployed with over 25,000 National Guards.

Biden mentioned the issue of racism and terrorism in his speech. He said that America will be revived from this pandemic very soon. He counted his victory as the victory of American democracy. He also mentioned the riot at Capitol Hill. He assured everyone that nothing will ever happen like that on American land from now on.

Biden tried two times to become the US President before in 1988 and 2008. After all this time, he finally became the US President in 2021.

What will be the benefits to India?

There will be many benefits to India such as Visa approval from now on. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi congratulated Joe Biden via Twitter.

The system for getting Visa is very hard for Indians. There are already many complications in obtaining the Visa of America for Indians. Biden will make some changes that will fasten the Visa approval process. It is because many people from India work for IT companies in America and many other companies want to call people from India.

Biden government has already favored India by commenting against China and Pakistan. Newly-appointed Minister of Defense, Lloyd Austin has warned China. Moreover, he warned Pakistan against hiding terrorists on their land.

What Trump said!!!

Trump went to live in his luxurious mansion in Florida after leaving the White House. He already had announced his decision not to attend the swearing-in ceremony. However, Trump released a video where he reacted to this.

In the video, Donald Trump was congratulating the newly formed government of the US. Moreover, he mentioned that he will make a comeback soon. Even after losing the election, he was not ready to leave the presidency. So, the announcement of Trump’s comeback has generated excitement over his followers and Trump-supporters.
