Side-Effects of CoVID-19 Vaccine
Hello everyone,
The vaccine of coronavirus has been released and given to
many health workers in Phase-1. The plans for Phase-2 are ready in which PM of
India, Narendra Modi, and others will be given the vaccine. Also, the group of
50+ age people will get the vaccine in Phase-2. I am not going to talk about
any technicality or planning of the vaccine program. But, this article is about
whether we trust our Indian vaccine or not?
What will be your answer if you are asked– “Will you take the vaccine for CoVID-19?” Or “Do you trust the vaccines for CoVID-19?”
The first dose of Covishield Vaccine has been given to
frontline health workers on 16th January 2021. The Covishield
vaccine is a ray of hope. There exist at least a dozen of vaccines in the
world. Many with less efficiency or with side-effects. Some of the vaccines
even failed during clinical trials and couldn’t make it to human trials. Since it’s
been more than a year of CoVID-19– we have seen many news for vaccines come and
go.
After taking the vaccine, there are some cases where some
people have developed side-effects due to the different vaccines of CoVID-19. An
example of this when a 40-years old volunteer alleged the experimental vaccine
of Oxford. The volunteer was from Chennai and claimed that he was suffering
from some side-effects after taking their CoVID vaccine and wanted the
compensation of 5 Crore INR. The volunteer claimed that he developed neurological
breakdown and damage in Cognitive functioning after taking the vaccine. The inspection and investigation are being done
by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) and the Institutional Ethics Committee.
Let’s have a look at the trustworthiness of the vaccines from the perspective of SCIENCE
According to a survey, the antibodies that develop in the
body of CoVID patients against Coronavirus starts to decrease after 2-3 months.
The scientists from London concluded that the antibodies remain in the body for
94 days on an average. This antibodies works as the soldier of our body and
protects us by counteracting the foreign agents like coronavirus. Continuous development of antibodies is necessary to avoid the infection of CoVID-19.
The main challenge that scientists are facing against coronavirus
is that the development of a vaccine that has the ability to produce antibodies that do not degrade for a lifetime or at least keep their constancy
for a year or two. If antibodies decrease after 2-3 months there is no benefit
of taking vaccines. It is nearly impossible to avail the vaccine to everyone
after every 2-3 months.
The most applauded CoVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech–
Pfizer vaccine was considered to develop some side-effects in 29 people who
took the vaccine. Also, the news of the death of 23 people has come after
taking the Pfizer vaccine. The Europeans are worried due to the eventual
results of the vaccines.
However, the development of reactions after taking vaccines
is normal and should not be taken as life threats. A case of Biologist Luke
Hutchison is cited below who developed reactions after taking the vaccine.
This is the case when most of the vaccine was in the early
stages and was being prepared. The MIT Biologist Luke Hutchison, volunteered clinical
trials of the CoVID vaccine of Moderna called mRNA-1273. After some hours, he
started feeling anxiety and trouble breathing. His muscles started to strain
causing pain in the whole body. The temperature reached 101 °F and the shoulder where he
injected was swollen. His whole body was shivering in cold.
He thought of taking the help of 911 but then decided not
to. He somehow spent his night in endless pain. On the next day, his body came
to its natural state and the pain disappeared without any treatment.
Also, the Immune system recruits T-cells to fight against the
virus in response to vaccines. However, these soldiers cannot fight at normal
body temperature and need a higher temperature to perform optimally. The
hypothalamus in the human brain increases the body temperature up to 39 °C
at which T-cells eradicate the foreign agents. However, we might take it as a bad
fever or a side-effect.
Conclusion: The majority of expected side-effects are nothing but the reactogenicity against the vaccine that entered inside the body. The vaccine also contains adjuvants like aluminum which warns the immune system against the entry of pathogens (disease-causing organisms) like coronavirus. The immune system secretes interleukins which in turn enhance the secretion of antibodies against pathogens. So, the clutter for a small period of time inside the body after vaccination is normal. However, sometimes unexpected reactions or side-effects may lead to severe consequences so one should not overlook the side-effects and should take the advice of medical experts or doctors.
NOTE: This is just news and the article is about what is
happening around the world. I am not spreading any type of havoc or fear of
vaccines.
