Hellen Keller: An Inspiration to Many
Hello everyone,
There are many person in the world who had great impact on
the world. This impact can be experienced now and will continue till the end.
One of the person is Hellen Keller, about whom I am going to talk today. She
was a great learner and wrote many books. At early age she was discouraged by
saying that she couldn’t learn anything. She proved them wrong by achieving
Bachelor’s degree in Arts. She was the first deaf-blind person in the world to
pursue Bachelor’s.
She was born in small town Alabama as a healthy baby girl
but as the day passed she became ill. This illness took away her ability to see
and hear. She became deaf and blind and everyone gave up on her except her
mother. There are always someone who believes in you until the end. Everyone
has atleast one person in their life who believes in them more than themselves.
Those are responsible for our success because they always try to push us. If
you too have this type of person thank them because you might not have achieved
something without their support.
Her mother never gave up on her and always tried to reach to
her. In defense of the saying, Hellen couldn’t learn anything, she always said
that, Hellen is bright child and only problem is how to reach to her. Mother
never gave up on their child and this is the perfect example mother. Her mother
started search for the perfect teacher who can teach Hellen effectively.
Teaching Hellen was quite complex job because she became
wild because of her condition. She always had angry mood, her clothes were
always dirty. She did not let anyone comb her hair. Even though with difficult
situation her teacher Miss Sullivan accepted the challenge to teach her.
Another important person came in Hellen’s life who changed the perspective of
Hellen towards world and taught Hellen how to live.
Teachers are really important and as equal as God, I would
say as per my experience. Because if it was not them we did not have come so
far. In case of Hellen, Anne Sullivan came as a teacher but Miss Sullivan was
not less than an angel. Miss Sullivan knew how to teach Hellen after she passed
some days playing with her. Hellen liked Miss Sullivan because she was kind.
Although she was equialentaly strict and started to teach Hellen.
She started teaching by realistic means. Miss Sullivan used
materialistic way where she used things and toys around them. She used to teach
Hellen by giving smething in Hellen’s hand and teaching Hellen how to spell
that thing. For example: One day, she gave a doll to Hellen and said, D_O_L_L.
Hellen slowly stared to understand what Miss Sullivan was trying to teach.
The first word Anne Sullivan taught Hellen was ‘WATER.’ For
this, she took Hellen near a running water source. Then Miss Sullivan made
Hellen to put her hands into the water and said, W_A_T_E_R. Hellen understood
that something cool, wet running over her hand called as WATER. Slowly she
started to learn words and believed that words are the most important thing in
the world.
According to me, Hellen was exactly right. Because without
words nothing is possible. Even God needed words when he created earth. In the
Book of John, the very first verse says this:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
The word made the universe and it might not happen if the
word was not there. Hellen understood this and started her new life.
She calls the day as “My Soul’s Birthday” when Miss Sullivan
arrived at her home on March 5, 1887.
She gave many books and wrote her life story in the book
named “Story of my life” and amazed the whole world. She became inspiration for
many.
Conclusion: Hellen delivered the message that whatever the
circumstances and the problems, you can always come up with something great and
extraordinary. You can come up with those achievements which others said
“impossible for you.” Hellen portrayed this. So, believe in yourself. I wrote
this article suddenly because today I was teaching about Hellen Keller to one of
my student and realized that how amazing person she was. So, I decided to write
about her.
